Styles of Hearing Aids

 

There are various styles of hearing aids available in the Market these days. The selection of right hearing aid for an individual depends upon, the user’s hearing requirements, lifestyle, and his/her personal preference. Prices of the hearing aids depend again on the extent of hearing loss, style of hearing aid and technology.

1. BTE

Behind-The-Ear (BTE) hearing instruments are fitted behind the ear and a tube caries the sound to the ear-canal through the custom-made Earmold. These hearing aids are the most flexible hearing aids in terms of fitting, as they can be fitted to any type of hearing loss. These device are fitted in a curved plastic shell, which has been designed to fit the contours of the back of External Ear. These devices are suitable for hearing losses between 25dB and 120dB HL .

2. ITE

In-The-Ear (ITE) hearing instruments are fitted in a customized Shell that fits sngly inside the Ear and delivers the sound directly into the ear. These Hearing aids are very easy to operate in case even in the case where the user has poor dexterity. These devices are suitable for hearing losses between 25dB and 100dB .

3. ITC

In-The-Canal (ITC) hearing instruments are smaller than the ITE hearing aids and are less visible.. These are also very easy to operate, even if the user has poor dexterity. These are housed within a custom-made shell that fits snugly inside each ear canal and delivers sound directly to the ear. Fitting Range: 25dB – 100dB\ The fitting range of these hearing aids is for the healing losses between 25dB to 100dB.

4. CIC

Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC) hearing instruments are virtually invisible to others, when worn. It is housed in a tiny custom-made shell that fits comfortably and completely into the ear canal. The device is removed from the ear canal by pulling a tiny nylon thread, which is fixed on the hearing aid. Where these miniature instruments are both powerful and cosmetically appealing, some features -- such as manual volume control-- are not available simply because the devices are so small. Fitting Range: 25dB-100dB .

5. Spectacle Hearing Aids

This is like a BTE but parts of the hearing aid are built into your eye glass frames. A chord or tube is connected to the mold that goes into your ear.

6. RIC Hearing Aids

RICs look very similar to open-fit hearing aids with the exception the receiver (speaker) actually is incorporate into the ear tip, instead of on the main body of the BTE case that sits behind the ear. The advantage of this innovative design is more gain is allowed without the risk of whistling, thus RICs are able to fit more significant hearing losses than traditional open-fit BTE hearing aids.
